Educator & Writer | Classroom Innovation, Experiential Learning & Future Skills | Founder of Outdoortopia
I’m an educator and writer, classroom practitioner and founder of Outdoortopia, working at the intersection of geography, environmental education, experiential learning, outdoor learning and digital storytelling.
My work focuses on creating learning experiences that connect ideas to the real world, helping young people develop curiosity, critical thinking, leadership, resilience and the knowledge, skills and confidence to understand and engage with a changing world.
I’m particularly interested in classroom innovation, systems thinking, sustainability education and future skills, exploring how education can help young people make connections, think critically and apply what they learn beyond the classroom.
Alongside my work in education, I’m developing Outdoortopia — an independent outdoor adventure and digital media brand helping people explore, learn and build a deeper connection with the natural world.
Through Education Influence, I share ideas, resources and perspectives on education, outdoor learning, environmental education and digital creation, exploring how learning can become more relevant, engaging and connected to the world around us.

Experiential learning
Education should do more than transfer knowledge. It should help young people understand the world, develop the confidence to navigate it and feel capable of shaping its future.
As a geography teacher, I see Geography as a powerful way to develop this understanding. It connects people and places, society and the environment, and local experiences with global challenges. It encourages students to think in systems, make connections, question assumptions and consider different perspectives.
Some of the most meaningful learning happens when ideas connect to the real world. Fieldwork, outdoor learning, experiential education, projects and problem-solving give students opportunities to apply knowledge, learn through experience and develop skills beyond the classroom.
Curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, resilience and a sense of responsibility are just as important as academic knowledge. Sustainability education is an important part of this, helping young people understand complex environmental challenges while developing the knowledge and agency to contribute to positive change.
Ultimately, learning should be relevant, challenging, experiential and empowering — helping young people become informed, curious and active participants in the world around them.
