About
Empathy, Education, and Peace for the World's Next Generation

A retired teacher, my work today is as writer, publisher, content coordinator, and independent global educator. Currently my work's focus is as a global team member of the Gaza Great Minds Foundation where I serve as writer and content coordinator for their educational nonprofit operating in Gaza. I create content and administer GGM's Patreon, Substack, and Redbubble online platforms. Additionally, I own/publish Shadows of Empire on Substack and am founder of the nonprofit, Empathy 1st Education.

An experienced English teacher and Adult Ed Instructor, my professional skills evolved for today's changing world. I earned National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification in English Language Arts for Adolescence and Young Adulthood (NBCT, ELA/AYA). I'm certified as a LA Certified Teacher in Secondary English. I'm also certified in TEFL and TESOL. I hold a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English Language and Literature/ Philosophy from McNeese State University.

Throughout my career's journey I've been passionate about inclusion. The focus of my career has been in alternative educational environments. I worked w/high risk students at an alternative educational school. I was Lead Instructor of Adult Ed over 3 community college campuses and at a prison. The desire to help learners who've been excluded or mis-challenged by the educational systems is the passion which drives my work.

Today I use digital communications skills I've gained to assist and support other nonprofits and individuals. I'm an humanitarian, a writer, and an educator feeling called to do everything I can to support human rights, dignity of people, the protection of both children and Earth. Education, social justice, humanity, nature, animals, and peace are my north stars. I believe we need system change, a quantum model of recovery.

Thank you for reading. If you're feeling similarly, let's network. Follow and connect. Let's work together for good.

Student-centred learning

I am a Montessorian educator at heart. I believe in student-centered, teacher-facilitated, purpose-driven education provided with empathy and compassion to reach the whole child. I believe in meaning-based reading instruction and research-based interventions. I believe that AI is an educator's ally and utilize it in my work and practices. An ideal education is grounded in literature, writing, history, philosophy, music, and the arts -- as well as math and science. Today's new scientific discoveries in quantum theories should be introduced and provided as well. In the west, a complete structural reorganization is needed to move present-day educational systems away from the industrial models to student-centered models. Critical thinking en masse won't improve until this is done. Literacy should be meaning-based in reading and writing. Phonics is an important part of this, but not the sole or main focus. A child can learn to read and write a word but still may not comprehend its meaning. Meanings-based education, much like purpose-based education, is often misunderstood, but is the best way to learn. I wouldn't teach any other way.
