Susan Shea
Early childhood advocate
Born in Ireland, where I trained as an AMI certified Montessori guide at the Primary level (age 3-6,) I have spent over thirty years working with young children in classroom environments both in Europe and in North America.
Now I am focusing on the development of two projects that are dear to my heart. I am delighted to share inspiration and ideas with you through my literacy based website http://www.phoneticplanet.org and also via The Small Hands Project http://www.smallhandsproject.org which highlights the power of life skills as a means of empowering children in the years before traditional schooling. The Small Hands Project is a collaborative labor of love, incorporating the efforts of many volunteers across the world to present ideas in a multilingual format.
Every child has the power to change the world, and every child deserves the opportunity to discover the joy to be found in a meaningful education! I personally experience joy in supporting children during the early years, and also their parents, educators and caregivers.

Experiential learning
As the saying goes, "When you love what you do, it is not work" in the sense that it not a task, but rather a source of positive energy and a life-long mission of love. Children have so much to teach us, if we are patient enough to observe them, become familiar with their interests and be creative in our responses to their learning styles. I believe that every child wants to experience the world in a meaningful way.
